Google maps showing real time traffic for 12 cities in India

Now Google Maps shows you real time traffic conditions for Kolkata, Coimbatore, Lucknow, Surat, Thiruvananthapuram, Indore, Ludhiana, Visakhapatnam, Nagpur, Kochi, Madurai and Bhopal. This update helps drivers and commuters to choose the best route to reach their destination, if available.

Suren Ruhela, Director, Program Management at Google said, “We’re constantly working on making Google Maps a more comprehensive, daily tool for Indians, and we hope that this new real-time traffic information for 12 cities and all national highways will help drivers across the country find the best routes to their destinations with the fewest delays”

By switching on the traffic layer on Google Maps, you can see the routes mapped out in different colors, indicating the different speed of traffic on those routes. You can find here https://support.google.com/gmm/answer/2840020?hl=en how to turn on the traffic view in Google Maps for mobile.

Google said, “green means there are no traffic delays on the road, orange indicates a medium amount of traffic and red alerts to you beware of heavier traffic congestion.

The company started the navigation and live traffic feature in 2012 initially for six cities in India and gradually they have added more cities to the list. Currently, Google Maps shows the real time traffic information for 34 Indian cities, said a Google spokesperson.

If you are in navigation mode you can see the real time traffic information with a more accurate estimate time of arrival and also see the alternate faster routes if available. This will help you to plan your drive and save the time while having heavy traffic on the road.
